Modern Agriculture and Permaculture program

Investing in Agriculture, Improving household income and welfare

Many smallholder farmers in the rural communities in Uganda live in poverty, and rely on

agriculture as their primary source of income. They often support multiple family members, and

work hard around the year to nurture their crops and earn enough money to provide the

following essentials for their families:

  • Food

  • Shelter

  • Healthcare

  • Education

Our primary goal is to assist rural farmers in generating income, thereby helping them and their families escape the clutches of poverty. Given that agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for the majority of Uganda's impoverished population, a significant portion of our efforts are concentrated in this sector.

We also dedicate about a quarter of our resources to entrepreneurship and business acceleration, where we help people access vital information, capital, and markets. This area of our work is currently experiencing the most significant growth, and we are committed to supporting individuals in realizing their entrepreneurial dreams.

Our aim is to encourage farmers to cultivate certain crops that have high market value, such as coffee, matooke, beans, maize, and others, as these can lead to significant increases in their incomes. When farmers are able to enhance the quality and yield of these crops, the impact can be transformative. By producing surpluses beyond their household consumption, these crops can be sold commercially, promoting community food security, encouraging value-added activities like processing, and supporting various businesses along the supply chain. This additional value not only benefits farmers and their families but also generates employment, wealth, and economic growth along the supply chain, all the way to the end consumers, whether they are local or global.

Our innovative program helps smallholder farmers growing high-value (or cash) crops to

achieve critical outcomes like the following:

  • Earn greater incomes by improving the quality and quantity of their crops

  • Access finance and supplies

  • Sell to better buyers, such as schools, hospitals, food and beverage companies, Maize

flour processing companies among others

  • Secure partnerships with buyers that pay higher prices

By increasing access to these resources and market connections, we help provide farmers with a reliable, long-term market and to have a self-sustainable living for their family
